Can you please explain the difference between permutation and combination in probability, thanks,
Great question Kevin,
Indeed we find many young kids struggling to understand the difference.
Let’s start with
It’s about combination of things for which order doesn’t matter, for example if I am planning to eat a fruit salad today and I am putting apple, oranges, cucumber, banana etc in the bowl. The order doesnt matter after all its a salad.
Permutation: When order does matter, it’s about ordered position. for example the password for my mail account is “123456789” now if write the password as “987654321” the order of number has changed, and I won’t be able to access my mail now.
interesting, a very simple way to explain it, i like your salad example.
Thanks @ClassRx much appreciated.
